Workforce Center Partners
The Workforce Centers in Local Area II, in compliance with Section 121 of the Workforce Investment Act of 1998, have been established, based on the One-Stop concept, to focus on meeting the needs of businesses for skilled workers and the training, education and employment needs of individuals.
Services for job seekers are made available for customers at a single neighborhood location. Employers will have a single point of contact for finding job-ready, skilled workers who meet their needs. For the One-Stop to be a success a core set of partners are required. Those partners are Business, Labor, Kansas Department of Commerce, Kansas Department of Labor, the Local Workforce Investment Board, the Chief Elected Officials, Department of Education, Job Corps and Social and Rehabilitation Services. Economic development entities, community based organizations and others are strongly encouraged to participate.
Each of the One-Stop partners in Local Area II Workforce Center locations continue to motivate both businesses and individual job seekers in their communities. Each partner has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the One-Stop Grant administrator which is Heartland Works in Local Area II. The MOU is an agreement mandated by the WIA entered into with a spirit of cooperation and collaboration for the purpose of creating a comprehensive workforce development service system. The MOU includes a Customer Service Description developed by each individual One-Stop Partner which states the services the Partner has to offer Workforce Center customers. Partners may elect to house staff at a Workforce Center location and also enter into a separate sub-lease contract for designated space in the Center. Cost sharing for operational services (such as local phone and fax services or copier supplies) is mutually agreed upon by the Partner and Heartland Works, Inc. There are many possibilities for full-time or part-time partner lease space as well as a variety of station sizes.
For additional information about becoming a partner at one of the Workforce Centers contact the Administrative Office of Heartland Works, Inc. at (785) 234-0500. A request may also be emailed to Heartland Works’ Fiscal Director, Phyllis McCune.
