On-the-Job training (OJT) allows an eligible customer to receive training from an employer while he or she works and earns a full salary. OJT is only allowed in high skill occupations that provide a competitive wage. Heartland Works will reimburse the employer up to 50 percent of the participating customer’s wages during the training period. The training period cannot exceed more than six months. The employer is expected to retain the OJT customer as long as he or she has performed to expectations. The trainee cannot have been on the employer’s payroll prior to entering into the OJT contract and the job must be a permanent position.
