Career and Job Placement Counseling
Heartland Works has Employment and Training Specialists who use a variety of methods to assist customers with career exploration.
We consider job seekers to be customers. A customer’s needs are objectively assessed and appropriate plans are developed to meet the employment goals of the individual.
The Basics
One-on-one counseling is available to assist customers in setting realistic employment goals and developing the means to achieve them. Group counseling and Job Club activities are available to provide support and focus for the job seeker. In the state-of-the-art Resource Centers located within each Workforce Center, customers have the opportunity to interact with the Employment and Training Specialists to conduct career research, attend career development workshops, create customized resumes and cover letters. Also available are personalized mock interviews to practice job interview skills. The Workforce Centers have current professional resources that will assist customers in preparing for the workforce.
Each Workforce Center has a wealth of resources in a variety of mediums (books, periodicals, videos, audio cassettes, CD-ROMS) that are focused on career development. Computer classes to upgrade skills are available in some of the Workforce Centers. Access to the Internet, fax machines and current labor market information is available anytime a customer visits the Resource Center.
