While the Council will have no statutory or regulatory authority over the seven LWIBs, it would serve as a regional advisory body to develop strategies to coordinate workforce services beyond political jurisdictions.

It will take on initiatives collaboratively agreed to by the

  LWIBs to increase the competitiveness of the region’s workforce including:

  • support for a portable basic workplace readiness credential recognized by both states; support for common OneKC workforce brand;
  • coordinated industry and business outreach services;
  • development of regional responses to critical skills shortages; and
  • establishment of purchasing compacts to increase buying power for goods and services.

Both States have agreed to provide up to $100,000 in technical assistance to the Council over three-year period.
